Requirements

  • Pass an AWS welders qualification test.
  • Be well versed in using welding equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints with little assistance.
  • Three years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment or graduation from an accredited trade school with one year of experience.
  • Ability to make mathematical calculations.
  • Commitment to Valmont Safety Statement and Corporate Safety's Critical Success Factors process.
  • Knowledge of Valmont's quality procedures, standards, and practices.
  • Awareness of Valmont's environmental policies.

Responsibilities

  • Operate MIG and Flux core welding machinery and processes to fit up and weld external components on to shafts.
  • Work on projects alone or in a team environment.
  • Pass an AWS welders qualification test and be well versed in using welding equipment.
  • Read blueprints with little assistance and use them to properly fit up product.
  • Make mathematical calculations in preparing the product or setting up machinery.
  • Physically perform the requirements of the task assigned.
  • Support all efforts to 100% complete the site SBO Plan.
  • Participate in department safety; demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors.
  • Conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
  • Gather parts and materials to complete the project.
  • Back-weld assigned shafts using sub-arc procedures.
  • Weld, grind, and straighten each pole prior to sending it to the next processing step.
  • Repair all quality problems.
  • Express equipment, parts, or procedural problems to the leadperson and the supervisor.
  • Complete required reports and enter the appropriate data with accuracy.
  • Operate various pieces of equipment and machinery e.g. welders, plasma cutting torches, handheld grinders, leveling and measuring devices.
  • Prioritize work in order to complete deadlines.
  • Work through problems with the minimum amount of assistance from the leadperson or the supervisor.
  • Deliver an on-time product without manufacturing errors.
  • Maintain accountability and maintenance of essential tools and welding equipment.
  • Perform physical requirements of the job, including lifting, bending, stooping, twisting, and occasionally working overhead.
  • Wear the required PPE at all times.
