About The Position

The Welder Mechanic II is a skilled professional responsible for the service, repair, and maintenance of tank trailers and containers. This role requires expertise in multiple areas of repair, including electrical systems, plumbing, framing, welding, grinding, painting, insulation, decal application, and more. This position supports and collaborates with less experienced technicians and helpers. Work often involves climbing ladders or scaffolding over six feet in height, and performing tasks that require bending, stooping, or working from low positions. The work environment may include exposure to loud noise, welding fumes, and grinding dust. All duties are carried out under the supervision of the department supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong understanding of metal repair procedures and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Skilled in the use of measuring tools and performing basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively in a production environment.
  • Demonstrates commitment to safety and adherence to company protocols.
  • Familiarity with general shop practices and safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or training as a Registered Inspector.
  • Registered Inspector training and certification a plus
  • Preferably the successful candidate will have inspector credentials.
  • ASME Welding Certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and service electrical wiring and plumbing systems on tanks and containers.
  • Perform structural repairs including framing, fenders, wrapping, suspension systems, fifth wheels, landing gear, truck mounts, and insulation.
  • Execute final cleanup tasks including sandblasting, priming, painting, decal application, and installation of plates and fenders.
  • Grind, polish, and patch tanks and bottles as required.
  • Perform MIG/TIG welding on aluminum, stainless steel, and mild steel.
  • Fabricate metal components based on blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Move trailers in and out of the shop safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct full plumbing inspections and repairs on tanks.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and perform complete repairs on trailer bodies independently.
  • Test repaired tanks and trailers for operational safety and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT and ASME standards for tank repair and inspection.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE (safety shoes, gloves, glasses, hearing protection, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
