About The Position

This position involves using MIG and TIG welding techniques to weld a variety of aerospace materials. The role requires calculating dimensions and tolerances, interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and weld symbols, and performing the actual welding of metal objects. The Welder II will also be responsible for inspecting complex welded assemblies to ensure they meet drawing requirements and specifications, choosing appropriate tools and processes, and evaluating the work area for hazards while ensuring all personal protective equipment (PPE) is in place.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 4 - 10 years of experience in welding trades.
• Must have excellent hand/eye coordination.
• Possess the ability to use saws, grinders and milling equipment in the preparation of parts for weld.
• Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings.
• Will have training in the use of precision measurement instruments.
• Will hold or have held certifications in the welding of aluminum, steel and stainless steel using MIG and TIG welding equipment.
• Must be able to take and pass welding test to receive certifications as required by prints and or contract.
• Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces and sit for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.
• On occasion must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision measurement instruments and using that knowledge, layout piece parts for the welding process.
• Interprets drawings, specifications and all weld symbols used in the welding industry.
• Performs welding of metal objects using a Mig welder or Tig welder.
• Inspects complex welded assemblies to insure product meets both drawing requirements and specifications.
• Chooses the correct tools and processes based on customer requirements and specifications.
• Evaluates work area to identify any hazards or unsafe conditions.
• Ensures all PPE is in place prior to beginning the welding process.
• Other Duties as assigned.
