Overview: The Welder I at Sure Steel, Inc. is an entry-level position responsible for performing basic welding tasks to support the fabrication of steel components. This role involves following detailed instructions, operating welding equipment safely, and ensuring high-quality welds. The Welder I will work under the supervision of experienced welders and supervisors to develop their skills and contribute to the successful completion of projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in a related field is a plus. Candidates with relevant work experience in a similar role or environment may be considered in lieu of formal education or certification.
  • Basic understanding of welding processes, techniques, and safety standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to work in various positions (standing, bending, lifting) for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn and develop welding skills through on-the-job training.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a certified welding program or vocational training in welding is preferred.
  • Previous experience in welding or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with basic welding techniques and equipment operation.

Responsibilities

  • Welding Operations:
  • Perform basic welding tasks, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, on steel components.
  • Follow welding procedures and specifications to ensure high-quality welds.
  • Operate welding equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to company standards and guidelines.
  • Material Preparation:
  • Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, and cleaning surfaces.
  • Set up welding equipment and select appropriate settings based on material and project requirements.
  • Assist in the layout and assembly of components to be welded.
  • Quality Control:
  • Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Identify and repair defects in welds, such as cracks, porosity, and incomplete fusion.
  • Maintain accurate records of welding activities and quality checks.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in safety training and drills to stay current with best practices.
  • Report any safety incidents or near-misses to the supervisor immediately.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on welding equipment.
  • Ensure welding tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other welders, fabricators, and shop personnel to support project needs.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure clear understanding of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
