About The Position

With a record backlog of high performance, aluminum boats to build for the military and first responders, SAFE Boats needs committed, passionate go-getters who hope to pursue a career in welding and are looking for an opportunity to get their start working for one of the best boat builders in the industry. You will perform supporting tasks to maximize the efficiency and productivity of more experienced welders/fabricators by ensuring that the proper parts and materials are set up to be welded and/or fabricated within the production environment. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, may perform housekeeping tasks to ensure an organized efficient work area, and will identify quality issues/concerns and escalate them to more experienced Team Members.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of welding, fabrication & fitting.
  • Basic understanding of standard build practices in comparable manufacturing environments
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate shop skills/tasks.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools
  • Follows directions and procedures under supervision.
  • Adheres to all procedures and safe work practices.
  • Conducts basic problem-solving skills under supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and stay organized.
  • Basic blueprint reading and ability to follow work instructions.
  • Measuring/Mathematics capabilities related to construction/manufacturing.
  • Excellent communication skills, not afraid to ask questions.
  • Time Management – able to stay on task and work within expected timeframes.
  • Any combination of training, education, or experience equivalent to a minimum of one year of experience in a shop, manufacturing, or similar environment.
  • Requires a minimum of one year of experience using machinery, common hand tools, and handheld power tools.
  • Must be a US Citizen due the nature of our contracts

Responsibilities

  • Follows basic instructions given by Leads and Supervisors
  • Measure work pieces and lay out work using standard measuring devices.
  • Select machine tooling to be used, utilizing knowledge of machine and production requirements.
  • Wire brush and clean welds made by the welder.
  • Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic work pieces.
  • Clamp, hold, grind component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers & portable grinders.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools to prep for welding.
  • May set up and/or verify settings on production machines and equipment.
  • Maintains an organized, clean work environment and utilizes a “clean as you go” work process for their assigned area/team.
  • Operates a variety of handheld and power-assisted tools and production fixtures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the department.
  • Effectively communicate to team lead or supervisor
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of their work.
  • Reports major issues to supervisor or to team lead.
