Requirements

  • 3+ years MIG welding experience in a Shop environment.
  • Experience welding various types and gauges of materials to tight tolerances while minimizing distortion.
  • Ability to read complex paperwork/drawings or follow oral instructions to ascertain materials and process for fabrication.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work overtime and to meet schedule demands.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Position, align, fit, weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications.
  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to ensure specifications are met.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, and/or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
  • Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
  • Move parts into position, manually or by using hoists or cranes.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Examine work pieces for defects to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the industry.
