About The Position

At the Decatur Railcar Repair facility, our Welder/Fabricators play a key role in keeping our railcar fleet safe, compliant, and operational. In this role, you’ll perform MIG welding and fabrication work to repair and recertify railcars, following strict quality and safety standards. Safety is non-negotiable — if it’s not safe, we don’t do it. You’ll be expected to follow Lock Out/Tag Out, confined space, PPE, and all safety procedures every time. We’re looking for welders with prior experience, a strong work ethic, and a serious commitment to doing the job the right way.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with MIG welding required; must pass a welding and torch-cutting test.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and wear a respirator.
  • Safety-first mindset; adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong attendance record and reliability.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, overtime, and weekends as necessary.
  • Must be 18 years or older and eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing, production, or military background preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to perform repairs and maintenance on railcars entering the shop and surrounding ADM facilities.
  • Perform MIG welding to repair, rebuild, and reinforce railcars as needed.
  • Conduct railcar inspections and document findings; assist in determining repair needs.
  • Execute cutting, grinding, gouging, and metal preparation work using torches and other tools.
  • Safely operate shop equipment such as forklift and railcar mover as needed.
  • Follow all Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures when working on railcars, equipment, or energized systems to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Work in confined spaces and at heights using fall protection equipment.
  • Complete required documentation for repairs and inspections per ADM procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project status and any issues.
  • Follow all company and regulatory safety practices and procedures without exception.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
