About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Welder/Fabricator Maintenance Technician is the welding and fabrication of thin gauge stainless steel products such as tanks, frames and sanitary tubing. Perform pipe fitting and fabrication for the purpose of repair and new installations of sanitary process piping, equipment and support structures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
  • Technical/Vocational Degree or HS education plus 3-5 year experience with stainless steel GTAW (TIG) welding process in a related field or Trade.
  • Working knowledge of dairy processing equipment and plant facilities.
  • Must have the ability to weld in all positions with good quality.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure, pressure gauges, use a level and square.
  • Physical ability to perform assigned job.
  • Self-motivated, willing to accept responsibility, and make good decisions.
  • Must have own hand tools and knowledge of proper use
  • Comprehension of pneumatics, hydraulics, boilers, etc.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements for a manufacturing operation
  • Ability to operate (or learn to operate) necessary equipment
  • Possess a solid understanding of welding equipment and welding accessories.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications.
  • Maintain welding equipment, hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent record required in safety, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Ability and willingness to follow directions as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to stand and walk the entire shift if needed
  • Ability to read and write instructions in English
  • Knowledge of the proper use of all cleaning chemicals
  • Must be able to work weekends, and overtime as required
  • Must be fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity SAP
  • Familiarity with GMP’s, SOP, & SAG’s
  • Frequently (51-75%) use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally (25-50%) walk, lift and/or move 26 to 60 lbs.
  • Rarely (1-25%) stand, sit, talk or hear, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Responsibilities

  • Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Perform welding (Tig/Stick) for new installations of process piping systems using pre-engineered drawings. Welding must meet the sanitary 3A standards and AWS D18 standards for the welding of Sanitary (Hygienic) applications.
  • Perform welding (Tig/Stick) for new installations of process piping systems as directed.
  • Produce sanitary type welds, grind and polish as required.
  • Install appropriate hanger systems for existing process pipe and new process pipe installations.
  • Dismantle and repair existing equipment.
  • Trouble shoots and repairs plant equipment and facilities.
  • Performs general and preventative maintenance to assure minimal downtime.
  • Maintains proper records, files, and necessary parts and supplies for all plant equipment.
  • Maintains all maintenance logs on assigned shift.
  • Ensures that department is clean and orderly at end of shift.
  • Sees that company tools and equipment are maintained properly.
  • Promotes and exhibits strong safety practices.
  • Ensures timely and proper completion of work orders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and timely attendance required.
  • Be willing to participate in the GPS program.
