About The Position

Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock in Lexington is adding a Weld & Finishing Supervisor to our growing team. In this exciting role your primary responsibility will be to drive the Weld & Finishing team in continuous improvement of safety, budget, and schedule adherence with lean manufacturing principles both on the production floor and during the production planning phases. You will lead our diverse and high performing teams in technical problem solving for topics including standard and non-standard work, tooling, material flow, safety, engineering drawings and BOMs, and process improvements. This role involves managing a team of group leads and assembly workers, coordinating with other departments, and maintaining high standards of quality and productivity. Hours: Monday - Thursday, 4:00pm - 2:30am

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in planning and launching new production lines in low-speed environments such as rail, aviation/aerospace, naval, heavy equipment, or similar.
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role
  • Proficient in SAP or similar MRP/ERP systems.
  • Expertise in lean methods and tools, including 5S, 7 Types of Waste, root cause analysis, Yamazumi Methods, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, ABC-XYZ Analysis, and Lean Shop Floor Management.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Operations, Manufacturing, or Engineering.
  • Experience in developing technology roadmaps for automation.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing, customer service, maintenance, or aftermarket businesses within the rail industry, preferably in light rail, heavy rail, or related production.
  • Relevant certifications such as Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certification, OSHA Safety, Certified Manufacturing Engineer, Supply Management, EIT, or Professional Engineering License.
  • Practical experience training others on Lean topics, facilitating Lean improvement activities, Kaizen, Root Cause-Corrective Actions, 5S events, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Plan production operations, define workflow, and establish priorities and production sequences to meet project and interdepartmental requirements.
  • Meet project targets for safety, quality, schedule, and direct labor hours.
  • Establish, monitor, and adjust manpower (including hiring and promoting), applicable equipment planning, and work-order sequencing to meet production demands.
  • Facilitate positive communication with the entire team on a regular basis to keep them informed of work status, department performance, process changes, and company policies.
  • Conduct bi-annual employee performance reviews, including planning, monitoring, and documenting the training and development of manufacturing employees.
  • Ensure production vehicles are ready for in-process inspections from internal and external customer inspectors in the Final Assembly Production area in advance of shipping vehicles.
  • Minimize defect write-ups and findings through the systematic elimination of root causes while driving solutions to be implemented in upstream processes.
  • Drive all areas and functions to support the preparedness and readiness for vehicles to ship.
