About The Position

The Weld Engineer is responsible for ensuring conformance to corporate standards for all welding processes, quality, and continuous improvements. This includes adherence to defined welding parameters, maintenance of weld gun certifications, and carrying out other maintenance processes. The Weld Engineer will maintain equipment records, set up welding equipment (laser welding, laser brazing, resistance welding, drawn arc welding, projection welding, MIG, Flux Core, & TIG welding), and reduce/eliminate weld expulsion. Maintain the certifications and calibration of test equipment. Act as the point of contact during all external Manufacturing Quality Assurance System (MQAS) and internal process audits related to welding. Responsibilities include: Coordinate activity related to all welding quality concerns Through weld quality and fault data analysis, able to demonstrate excellent reporting skills and show continuous improvement in overall weld quality and lower welding costs Collect, maintain database, and report on all aspects of RSWA welding inspection to ensure 100% of the inspections are being performed daily in a timely manner to meet corporate requirements. Has complete understanding of the RSWA software and hardware and the ability to edit and create inspection plans. Maintain and document all welding parameters in the body area. Maintain weld quality, assist in root cause of weld related concerns and apply corrective action. Support and document all Nordson sealer / adhesive systems. Support sparkless welding initiatives. Prepare all necessary documentation for corporate welding auditors in both MQGR and BIW process audits. Assist corporate manufacturing engineering with product changes or modifications. Provide guidance and support for welding related maintenance activities. Investigate and solve equipment and process problems utilizing effective problem-solving processes. Ability to optimize welding applications through selection of proper welding equipment and materials, quality control procedures, destructive and non-destructive testing methods, and training of welding personnel to ensure the quality and reliability of welded assemblies. Plan and Organize Projects- Plans, schedules, organizes, estimates resource needs, and implements for assigned engineering projects. These projects are determined by manufacturing and production needs. Support Manufacturing and Production in areas of process concerns, equipment problems, and any other product flow issues. Seeks and recommends ways to improve products, equipment, tooling, and processes to increase overall productivity. Provides technical support and information to other departments, vendors, and customers as requested. Maintain, write, and update all plant welding specifications to meet corporate requirements. Create work methods and practices for improving weld quality and reducing welding related downtime.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year of experience maintaining welding technology
  • Strong computer skills
  • Must be proficient in MS Office
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-directed
  • Willing to work any shift, overtime and weekends as required
