About the position

The Weld Engineer Staff position at General Dynamics Land Systems involves applying advanced welding knowledge and experience to ensure high-quality welding processes and procedures. The role includes maintaining training quality, supporting welding engineering initiatives, and providing technical interfaces with various stakeholders. The engineer will also manage product design interpretations, non-conformance evaluations, and ensure a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Applies welding knowledge and experience, including GMAW, GMAW-P, GTAW, SMAW standards utilizing various metal alloys.
  • Maintains welding training quality through welder process audits and assessments on the production floor or field.
  • Supports and contributes to the Welding Engineering Team initiatives, including developing and qualifying new welding procedures to AWS and Military welding code requirements.
  • Conducts welding vendor services reviews and assessments, and engages in welding technology research and development.
  • Provides technical interface with internal and external customers, including government representatives and suppliers.
  • Manages product design interpretation, non-conformance dispositions, engineering changes, root cause analysis, and production problem reports.
  • Performs product non-conformance evaluation and dispositions.
  • Manages safe work practices and maintains a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering field required.
  • Possess or obtain AWS CWI certification within 6 months of job acceptance.
  • 5 years related experience, 7+ years preferred.
  • US Citizenship required and must be 18 years of age.
  • Must successfully complete background check and pre-employment medical process including a drug screen.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain DOD security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a valid state-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
  • Demonstration of proficiency in welding and fabrication of large heavy structure weldments utilizing various metal alloys.
  • Demonstration of knowledge and skill level with JSMC welding processes - GMAW, GMAW-P, GTAW, SMAW.
  • Able to perform problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent written and presentation communications skills.
  • Proficient with MS software required and parametric 3D software such as Creo or equivalent highly desired.
