About The Position

This position works primarily in Northeast Nebraska (Knox, Cedar, Dixon, Dakota, Thurston, Wayne, Pierce, Antelope, Boone, Madison, Stanton, Cuming, Burt, Washington, Dodge, Colfax, Platte, Polk, Butler and York Counties). In this position you will serve Nebraska consumers by ensure equity in the marketplace. The Weights and Measures program protects the integrity of commercial measurements by inspecting weighing and measuring equipment. Travel would be in the inspection area and may include periodic travel to other inspection areas or meetings. We provide you with a state vehicle and the equipment you’ll need to perform inspections. Residence in the Area is preferred. Initial training will be held in Lincoln, additional training will be held in your inspection area. Initial training typically lasts 3 – 4 weeks, but continued training opportunities exist. There may be some overnight travel for training and occasional meetings. Requirements

  • Post high school coursework/training in agriculture, plant/animal or natural sciences, or other program related field OR a vocation certificate in electrical, mechanical, engineering or other program related field.
  • Two years’ experience working in a relevant discipline
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), or ability to obtain, and a high school diploma.
  • Physical capability and endurance to routinely lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in using computers, Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of commercial weighing and measuring devices ranging in capacities from 600 grams to 150,000 lbs.
  • Efficiently maintain required inspection frequency in the area.
  • Submit all inspection reports electronically.
  • Maintain vehicles (1/2 Ton Pickup & Large Scale Truck).
  • Maintain testing equipment (weights).
  • All other duties assigned withing the scope of the classification.
