About The Position

The Weight Inspector I position at the Florida Department of Transportation involves enforcing weight laws, including vehicle registration and compliance with fuel tax requirements for commercial vehicles as specified in Chapter 316 of the Florida Statutes. The incumbent will use automated scales and measuring devices to determine the weight of commercial vehicles and cargo, calculate axle and gross weights, and submit Weigh Station Deficiency reports. The position requires maintaining records and preparing reports on all vehicles checked, as well as assisting the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles with collecting overdue citation payments. The role also involves inspecting license plates and registration certificates, requiring vehicles to be off-loaded when exceeding legal weight limits, and providing information to vehicle owners and operators regarding state weight laws.
