About The Position

The Weight Control Group Manager is responsible for overseeing all tasks related to Weight Estimating and Weight Control Programs for new construction projects at Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc. This role involves defining strategies in accordance with project contracts and specifications, managing staff, budgets, and schedules, and ensuring effective weight management throughout the design and engineering processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in vessel design and engineering software.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D software such as AutoCAD, Ship Constructor, and FORAN.
  • Experience managing projects and supervising a team of professionals.
  • Knowledge of Classification Rules and International codes and standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software such as AVEVA, NUPAS CADMATIC, and Navisworks.
  • Ability to effectively present information to senior management and the public.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all tasks related to Weight Estimating and Weight Control Programs for new construction projects.
  • Define strategy in accordance with project contracts and specifications.
  • Manage assigned staff, man-hour budgets, and project schedules.
  • Prepare and issue project weight control procedures and reports.
  • Specify project requirements or budget weights and 'Not To' exceed weights.
  • Lay out contingencies to be applied during various project phases.
  • Coordinate and collect weight data from engineering disciplines and other departments.
  • Conduct weight audits and prepare project weight reports as required.
  • Review design changes for weight implications and propose corrective actions as needed.
  • Liaise with all departments on weight-related matters and conduct weight review meetings.
  • Maintain historical weight records and ensure accountability among supervised employees.
