About The Position

The Weighmaster is responsible for the accurate weighing of on-highway trucks and internal equipment, ensuring that all outbound loads comply with legal weight limits and customer specifications. Operating from the scale house, this role serves as a critical liaison between the sales, production, and transportation teams. The ideal candidate possesses a sharp eye for detail, a strong commitment to safety (MSHA compliance), and the ability to maintain professional composure during peak dispatch hours. You are responsible for ensuring that every ton of material leaving the site is accounted for, billed correctly, and transported safely.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in Mining, Construction, or Manufacturing Environment. Familiarity with aggregate products (crushed stone, sand, gravel) is highly preferred.

  • You must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods to manage high-volume truck traffic.

  • You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.

  • Familiarity with scale operations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with aggregate products (crushed stone, sand, gravel) is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate electronic scales to determine gross, tare, and net weights for outbound aggregate shipments.
  • Input customer data, project codes, and material types into the ticketing system with 100% accuracy.
  • Monitor truck weights to ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) bridge laws and gross vehicle weight ratings.
  • Issue legal weigh tickets and maintain organized records of all daily transactions, including voided tickets and cash sales.
  • Manage the flow of traffic on and off the scale, using CB radios or intercom systems to direct drivers to the correct stockpiles or loading areas.
  • Coordinate with Loader Operators to ensure trucks are loaded with the correct material and to report any loading discrepancies.
  • Address driver inquiries and resolve issues regarding orders or weight discrepancies professionally and efficiently.
  • Ensure all incoming drivers are aware of site safety protocols, including PPE requirements and traffic patterns.
  • Monitor the scale area for debris, spills, or mechanical issues that could pose a safety risk.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly scale house in compliance with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) standards.
  • Manage cash, check, or credit card transactions for 'COD' customers, ensuring daily deposits match system reports.
  • Generate daily and weekly production and sales reports for plant management and the corporate accounting office.
  • Assist in tracking inventory levels by monitoring the volume of specific materials leaving the site.
