About The Position

The Weekend Platforms Editor at NBC News Digital is responsible for curating content for the NBCNews.com homepage and app, focusing on weekend coverage. This role involves writing breaking news alerts, distributing content to partners, and managing stories across various newsroom sections. The ideal candidate should possess strong editorial judgment, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and comparable work experience.
• 3 or more years' experience in a digital newsroom.
• A broad knowledge of current affairs, including politics, race, social justice, international affairs, pop culture, and sports.
• Must be comfortable working in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

• Curate the NBC News homepage and app with a lively mix of breaking news, politics, enterprise reporting, and video.
• Execute live coverage on the homepage and app, including liveblogs and video.
• Frame and package stories from all sections of the newsroom, including breaking news stories, features, and counterprogramming.
• Coordinate plans with section editors to ensure their stories are promoted and distributed in all the right places.
• Write and edit headlines, app alerts, and contribute to newsletter production.
• Distribute and pitch stories to Apple News, Yahoo, and Flipboard.
• Monitor analytics and audience behavior to inform story curation and strategy.
• Work with photo editors to ensure the homepage and app is always looking sharp.
• Some work on social distribution will be required.
