About The Position

Under the guidance of Day Coordinator and in direction of the Assistant Director and the Shelter Director; provide supervision, training, and on-going support to shelter advocates; intervene in resident crises; provide guidance and practical support to residential floor and YWCA advocates; complete assigned statistical reports; perform varied technical support and administrative tasks; serve as active member within program and the YWCA as a whole. This role also fulfills advocate direct care functions and serves as a critical link with shelter coordinators and director to inform and problem solve to continuously improve services to victims of domestic violence. This position includes a 90-day evaluation period, after which performance will be reviewed. Schedule: 24 hours/week, Friday 7am-1pm, Saturday-Sunday 7am-4pm.

Requirements

• Minimum qualifications include a combined 5 or more years of education and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in women’s studies, political science, public policy, communications, criminal justice, or social work. Or another closely related field plus 2-3 years’ experience in direct service in a shelter setting
• Or Associate’s degree from an accredited college plus 4 or more years’ experience.
• Or High school diploma plus 5-7 years of relevant demonstrated experience (listed above)
• Minimum of two years’ experience in domestic violence, trauma-informed care, and substance abuse.
• Experience with staff supervision and management
• An understanding of and agreement with YWCA Utah’s mission, values and philosophy regarding the elimination of racism, empowerment of women and commitment to anti-oppression work and social justice.
• Knowledge and skills in effective communications, crisis intervention, women's issues, human behavior and community resources helpful.
• Understanding and commitment to issues of cultural diversity and anti-racism.
• Ability to work assigned hours on a regular basis, and have some flexibility related to coverage of a 24/7 shelter.
• Proficiency with general office duties, computer systems and technology.
• Fluency in English (speaking and writing) required, with fluency in Spanish helpful.
• Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time, evaluate progress, and adjust activities to complete projects within established timeframe.
• Demonstrated experience functioning within multidisciplinary settings.
• Skilled in establishing effective working relationships.
• Ability to collaborate and invite collaboration.
• Able to demonstrate skills in effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving.
• Must be able to pass Department of Health and Human Services background check, meet I-9 requirements, and, if driving on agency business, a valid Utah driver’s license, automobile insurance and motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

• Provide Sanctuary-informed supervision, mentoring, debriefing and support to Shelter Advocates through regular, individual and group supervision.
• In conjunction with the Shift Coordinators, organize and facilitate the completion of training for new hires as per contractual requirements and best practice guidelines.

• Provide on-the-job coaching for the day-to-day crisis management and supervision of all residential floors.
• Provide support and case staffing for advocates on campus during scheduled shifts.
• Coach and support advocates in effective crisis-response practices, including demonstrating protocols and assessing when to involve on-call directors.
• Lead on-site crisis operations on campus, collaborating with emergency responders, managing safety issues, and contacting the on-call director as needed.
• Reinforce implementation of Sanctuary informed psychoeducation across the shelter advocate role and processes.
• Supervise daily responsibilities of advocates and reinforce job expectations routinely.
• Ensure compliance of DV Policies and Procedures.
• Provide informal and formal feedback and guidance around job performance, including the completion of job performance appraisals.
• Promote effective and timely ETO documentation and data entry, including monitor log notes for effective documentation and task completion.
• Maintain, update, and review shift task sheet assignments.
• Attend weekly assigned meetings
• Maintain communication with Shift Coordinators/Leads and help strengthen cross-shift communications.
• In conjunction with the Assistant Director and Director, assist with interviews in hiring new advocates.
• Additional duties as assigned.
• Mentor and support residents through compassionate, caring, respectful and professional service.
• Model strengths-based empowerment.
• Conduct welcome/intake meetings for new residents.
• Ensure safety of residents by monitoring security and intervening in crises as appropriate.
• Promote healthy families by engaging program participants in positive recreation and other activities for themselves and their children.
• Educate participants and teens about healthy relationships and the dynamics of domestic violence and facilitate their decisions and choices about ongoing services.
• Provide parenting education and support as needed.
• Support program participants in achieving their self-determined program goals.
• Provide information and referrals about internal and external support services including referrals for mental health or substance abuse services, crisis mental health services, and internal case management and group support.
• Encourage residents and other staff to follow YWCA community standards.
• Follow/teach/coach ETO documentation protocols and core function processes, using real-time data entry procedures as tools and technology supports are available.
• Assist with licensing compliance and quality assurance for participant files.
• Complete incident and accident reports promptly and distribute to appropriate staff.
• Keep all records necessary to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with Domestic Violence established protocols, YWCA policies and contractual, and legal requirements.
• Keep all personnel and other records in accordance with agency requirements.
• Maintain overall performance quality and quantity at a satisfactory level as outlined in the performance review.
• Communicate directly with other team members and supervisor to problem solve, resolve conflicts and make decisions.
• Attend all required staff meetings, individual supervision, agency-wide staff and other trainings, as well as any other meetings as requested.
• Articulate and promote high ethical, legal, and professional standards in all YWCA programs, activities, and services, and with all agency publics.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationship with agency staff, other key publics, and any other organizations and individuals important to the success of the YWCA’s work
• Uphold and act in accordance with the mission of the organization, vision, values and strategic direction of the organization.

• Satisfactorily perform all duties outlined in this job description.
• Maintain all certifications and licensing related to role, program licensing, and grant standards including but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, Food Handlers Permit, LCSW/CSW/SSW, etc.
• Monitor campus security in collaboration with all staff to protect the safety and well-being of program participants, staff, and visitors.
