About The Position

We are seeking a student worker to help us make our website ADA-compliant and accessible to blind / low vision users and students with other disabilities. This worker will make HTML fixes to pages on CSCC.edu under the direction of the web content supervisor. These fixes may include alt text for images, table headers, heading levels, and others. This worker may also prepare documents to be converted to PDF. The successful candidate will need intermediate HTML skills. This worker will also need to be familiar with web accessibility standards or a demonstrated capacity to learn. This position is only open to students with Federal Work Study eligibility.

Requirements

  • Intermediate knowledge of HTML
  • Working knowledge of ADA compliance standards
  • This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State.
  • You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program.
  • Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.
  • Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.
  • Students enrolled as Transient, College Credit Plus, Undecided, or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ADA standards for HTML and PDF is preferred, but training is available.
  • Ability to follow a list of page fixes and document the fixes you make
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to learn new standards and apply them in a real-world context
  • Web development or computer science related majors
  • Knowledge of ADA website accessibility standards, specifically WCAG 2.1, Level AA
  • Knowledge of word processing programs and Adobe PDF Professional

Responsibilities

  • Follow a list of recommended HTML fixes.
  • Perform document fixes
  • Enact HTML fixes using HTML best practices. This could include entering alt text for images, added headers to tables, checking header levels, etc.
  • Enter HTML fixes using our content management system. Knowledge of HTML standards and the ability to troubleshoot HTML is required.
  • Prepare documents to convert to PDF in an accessible format.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information.
  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
  • Work a consistent, reliable schedule and exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
