Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED (Required)
  • One-year work experience in construction, maintenance and repair (preferred).
  • CDL, DOT certifications, Electrical and Welding Certifications (highly desirable).
  • Valid Driver’s license with acceptable driving record (Required).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of structures maintenance.
  • Practice safe work methods to remain accident and injury free.
  • Ability to recognize hazards inherent in routine and non-routine tasks and make adjustments to avoid loss, injury or accident.
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate proportions, percentages, and measurements).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair highway structures including concrete, structural steel, welding, expansion joints, carpentry and painting as required.
  • Create safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T.) control by setup and removal of traffic controls devices including cones, message/arrow boards, temporary signage, etc.
  • Work from heights in bucket trucks, snooper trucks, scaffolding, ladders and aerial platforms lifts.
  • Repair/maintain functionality of bridge and culvert slopes, berms, drains, etc. through use of shovels and other hand or power tools and equipment.
  • Control vegetation appearance and growth through use of lawn mowing equipment, hard or power trimmers, and chemical sprayers.
  • Maintain the appearance and functionality of bridge fender systems including navigational signs, lighting, and all elements of the structural fender systems.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites operating large trucks and specialized motor vehicles and trailers.
  • Be available for emergency response rotations as needed for overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
