About The Position

Aptive is seeking a Web Developer with a strong background in both designing and developing accessible websites. The Web Developer will work closely with project teams and client stakeholders within the U.S. Department and Veterans Affairs to help accomplish their strategic goals. This role involves a balanced focus on front-end development, web design, and consulting to ensure websites and features are functional, meet requirements, and provide good user experience. This is a full-time, remote position (with the option to work from Aptive’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA). Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
  • Portfolio website required.
  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience building accessible, user-friendly websites, preferably for the public sector.
  • Expert-demonstrated knowledge and experience writing modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Expert-demonstrated knowledge and experience practicing UX and applying user-centered design in your work.
  • Experience developing secure PHP in WordPress and Drupal within the past 2 years.
  • Strong applicable knowledge of web accessibility standards (Section 508, WCAG).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Active Public Trust security clearance preferred; ability to obtain one required.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting large federal agencies.
  • Experience using Google Analytics to track and analyze user behavior, optimize website performance, and generate reports.
  • Experience implementing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategies.
  • Experience using design tools like Figma.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git.
  • Experience working with data and developing data visualizations.
  • Experience building LOE (level of effort) quotes/estimates and responding to proposal requirements from potential customers.

Responsibilities

  • Be the SME (subject matter expert) in the room who clients trust and rely on for all things web and UX/usability.
  • Collaborate with designers, writers, researchers, project team members, and stakeholders to create and maintain high-quality websites.
  • Develop and maintain robust code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Design websites and website features using best practices and insights from user research.
  • Create and edit website content in visual page editors in WordPress and Drupal.
  • Ensure all delivered products comply with section 508 and WCAG 2.1 A and AA for accessibility.
  • Optimize website performance for load speed, scalability, and usability.
  • Conduct code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure robustness and reliability.
  • Ability to connect and align small details with an overarching vision.
  • Ability to gather user and technical requirements for a web project.
  • Experience, comfort, and confidence in pitching new ideas to clients.
