The Web Developer position at the University of Chicago focuses on supporting the UChicagoNode project, which aims to enhance digital research through the integration of digital collections and research data.   • Codes web-based discovery and display interfaces for digital collections using React, Next.js, and TailwindCSS according to specifications.
  • Fetch data from the OCHRE Publication API in XML or JSON format.
  • Use data to populate web-based interfaces and collaborate with other team members.
  • Manage the interface code in the Git version control system.
  • Extend the OCHRE Publication API with new functionality as needed.
  • Liaise between the OCHRE Data Service and the Digital Library Development Center on common concerns and document work in a GitHub repository.
  • Gather and analyze requirements for developmental programs with stakeholders.
  • Perform code testing on components to ensure implementation standards are met.
  • Evaluate design alternatives for development cost and solutions using various methods.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
  • Minimum college or university degree in a related field.
  • 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least three years of experience with programming languages, including Python.
  • Demonstrable Unix/Linux literacy.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of a web application framework or library (e.g., Django, Flask, Angular, React).
  • Experience with Git and GitHub.
  • Ability to incorporate HTML, CSS, and JavaScript into programs.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex technical details.
  • Strong attention to detail.
