About The Position

The Back End Web Developer will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of back-end systems and server-side logic for web applications. This position works closely with senior developers and stakeholders to support feature development, database integration, and API connectivity. Participates in testing, deployment, and debugging, with a focus on learning modern back-end frameworks, improving application performance, and ensuring data integrity and security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in design, computer science, or related program or significant related experience.
  • Basic experience in back-end development using PHP, Python, or Node.js
  • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL or PostgreSQL), including writing and debugging SQL queries
  • Exposure to back-end frameworks (e.g., Laravel, Express.js, Flask) and understanding of MVC principles
  • Basic understanding of RESTful APIs and ability to consume or build simple APIs
  • Familiarity with Git version control and basic terminal commands in a Linux environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and complete them on time
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities as the need arises
  • Strong team orientation and the ability to communicate well to those both within the industry and other stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and understanding of web technologies as they relate to Higher Education is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assists in developing, testing, and maintaining server-side application logic using PHP, Python, or Node.js within a web framework (e.g., Laravel, Django)
  • Supports API development and integration, working with both internal and third-party RESTful services
  • Collaborates with other developers, designers and external agencies to implement creative within CMS or application framework
  • Collaborates with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements using server-side logic
  • Participates in code reviews, team meetings, and contributes to documentation of back-end processes and system design
  • Assists in monitoring application performance and logs to troubleshoot issues in production environments
  • Continuously learns and applies best practices in security, scalability, and code quality
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support team goals and development timelines.
