About The Position

Astrion is seeking a Part-Time Web Developer Associate to support NASA’s Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program and data visualization for NASA's Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission. The Web Developer associate supports technical aspects of an organization’s internet web application/site suite and associated database development, technical programming, uploading content, and daily operations. Ensures all products developed are secure and free of known vulnerabilities. Works with multimedia specialists to develop security compliance, interface design and website architecture. Investigates system errors, performs backups, and ensures user accessibility and site performance. Support efforts to maintain web site vulnerability testing tools to evaluate development, test, and production page implementations. Support efforts to validate consistent operational functionality of the site components across multiple browser platforms.

Requirements

• Knowledge of NASA software systems development requirements and best practices.
• Advanced skill and experience in designing and maintaining user interfaces to allow users to model and visualize science data, including fields and particle data used to investigate plasma environments.
• Advanced programming skills in JavaScript, including with Angular and React.
• Experience with mobile application development with Cordova/Capacitor.
• Ability to operate within a variety of OS including Linux, Windows, Mac.
• Advanced proficiency with common software development applications such as Git and Subversion.
• Some proficiency with the GSFC Common Data Format (CDF).
• Familiarity with MMS FPI data products, their requirements and status.
• Knowledge of the FPI data processing systems, protocols, and limitations.
• Ability to communicate both professionally and effectively with the full Code.

Responsibilities

• Support sustaining engineering activities for the operation and backup of the GLOBE system including gathering, documenting, and developing new requirements from GLOBE users feedback, Technology Working Group, GLOBE sponsors and supporters (NASA, NSF, NOAA, and State Department).
• Collaborate with NASA/GSFC to improve the configuration and settings of the DIS development, hosting and backup environments for a better international user experience of the GLOBE Site.
• Provide computer support enabling the design, development, integration, test, and sustaining engineering of Code 670/673 science and engineering data visualization applications.
• Provide computer support enabling the design, development, integration, test, and sustaining engineering of Code 670/673 ground systems.
• Attend meetings as required by Code 670/673 management.
• Document individual lab tasks via the established Code 670/673 laboratory ticketing system.
