About The Position

Under the direction of the Digital Marketing Manager, the Web and SEO Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day management of the museum’s web content. Working collaboratively across departments, the Web and SEO Administrator plays a key role in front-end web development as well as maintaining and improving the website’s functionality, performance, and accessibility. The Web and SEO Administrator develops appropriate strategies for the development and implementation of SEO best practices such as web and digital content with a focus on messaging and discoverability and technical aspects including page speed optimization, mobile responsiveness, and structured data. Opened in 1927, the Honolulu Museum of Art is a home for art and education created for the benefit of the entire community. Founder Anna Rice Cooke envisioned a museum that would bring people together through the power of art and “the deep intuitions that are common to all.” The museum was conceived of as a place of meaningful exchange and dialogue, celebrating the diverse artistic and cultural traditions of Hawai‘i’s multi-ethnic population. From this founding intention grew the museum of today, with a world-class encyclopedic collection of more than 55,000 works of art, representing a stunning breadth of places and eras, from all corners of the globe and from the ancient past to the present day.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, UX Design, Communications, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • One year of experience in a media-related field such as advertising, publishing, marketing, web management or development, or non-profit communications.
  • One year of experience with web-based Content Management Systems (CMS) and UX design.
  • Demonstrated experience writing for the web and managing content workflow queues.
  • Ability to code for web pages in HTML and CSS.
  • Strong understanding of technical SEO, including the impact of site structure, page speed, mobile responsiveness, and metadata on search engine visibility.
  • Excellent computer skills and a high aptitude for technology, including fluency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite (emphasis on Photoshop).
  • Honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment, enthusiasm, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as HoMA’s primary website administrator, loading new content or revising and editing existing content to suit institutional branding and optimize user functionality.
  • Develops and maintains a web production calendar, ensuring timely delivery of content.
  • Ensures adherence to museum brand standards across the site.
  • Organizes and manages information for virtual audience outreach, including exhibition and event materials, photographs, videos, and audio recordings.
  • Develops and implements SEO strategies to increase organic traffic, improve search rankings, and drive conversions for HoMA’s website and digital content
