About The Position

This role supervises the Data Systems and Web Services teams in the security, holding and appropriate dissemination of data and information to the appropriate groups. The areas of responsibility include the software tools needed to process data of all types (e.g., student achievement, personnel, financial, facilities, etc.) as well as the processes and procedures used to collect, validate, and analyze the data. These tasks will occur within an educational setting and will service the faculty, staff, Administration, the Board of Education, students and parents. The Manager of Data Systems and Web Services must have a thorough understanding of existing data technology platforms and be knowledgeable of future trends and applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a data focused role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and data manipulation techniques.
  • Experience with data visualization best practices and techniques.
  • Firm understanding of data modeling and data governance principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Tableau or similar BI software such as Power BI is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with Tableau Prep is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with a scripting language like Python or R.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all the activities of the Data Systems and Web Services teams.
  • Work with the Director of Assessment and Research to translate educational performance questions into actionable data analysis and reporting requirements.
  • Manage department resources to establish and maintain clear prioritization of ad hoc reports as well as permanently accessible reports and dashboards.
  • Provide direction to Data Analysts and make key decisions on data modeling, data governance, reporting, and visualization
  • Manage the configuration and management of the Student Information System and all of its data integration with connected systems such as Classlink.
  • Ensure technical support is provided for all users of the Student Information System
  • Ensure data integrity, data security, and compliance with data quality standards.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of process documentation and best practices.
  • Oversee data collection and data validation processes
  • Manage the architecture of all data systems:
  • Ensure that all existing data integrations and systems are well mapped and understood
  • Ensure that current systems meet the district's needs and if not, identify replacement or new systems
  • Project management of new systems launches
  • Responsible for mandatory State and Federal Reporting of student information
  • Project management of yearly system maintenance and support tasks, as well as the deployment of new systems
  • Provide training, development, and feedback to all members of the data systems department
  • Propose and manage the yearly data systems and web services budgets
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
