About The Position

The Weather Forecaster II position at Akima, LLC involves providing critical weather support at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, CO. Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Air Force Weather Stations.
  • Graduated from Air Force Weather forecasting program.
  • Minimum 3 years leading operational weather teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership or Organizational Management or a suitable substitute preferred.
  • Public Trust clearance required.
  • Experience with policy reviews, program audits, and quality control.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior military leadership in formal settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
  • Highly skilled in weather product analysis.
  • Highly effective communicator and public speaker.
  • Proficient with Air Force weather dissemination systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide weather support for the fourth busiest airfield in the DoD and military academy activities.
  • Collect, analyze, evaluate, and interpret meteorological and climatological data to predict weather impacts.
  • Produce timely and accurate weather products under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Communicate actionable weather recommendations to client unit leadership using METWATCH techniques.
  • Develop and apply meteorological techniques to improve weather station operations.
  • Disseminate meteorological information including warnings, watches, advisories, and mission weather products.
  • Perform quality control on all weather products to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Conduct public speaking engagements, including mass briefings and radio broadcasts of weather information.
