The approximate date of this internship is June 2026 - January 2027 and will be located in Orlando, FL. What You Will Do We are looking for a Production Design Intern who is interested in working within the department that turns concepts for immersive Disney environments into reality by collaborating with project teams and partners through designing, coordinating, and communicating the details which maintain the creative intent of a show for bidding, construction, production, and installation. The intern plays an integral part of the design process, as they will create documents based on art from the Creative Concept team and/or Sr. Production Designers. The intern will be responsible for generating code compliant, scaled, design intent drawings that will be used in the vendor bid process. They will integrate the needs of our various park partners into the design ensuring the show element meets the creative intent. The intern will work under a senior designer to ensure that the content and integrity of the design concept is maintained throughout the design, production, and installation process. It is the mission of the studio to create highly entertaining environments in which the magic of each Disney story is possible. In trying to offer a unique Imagineering internship experience, there may be opportunities to contribute to other design scopes to expand the overall understanding of theme park design.

Requirements

  • 2D and 3D computer aided design on a variety of software
  • Some experience in, i.e. theater design, architectural design, interior design, exhibit design, industrial design, product design or theme park design
  • Work efficiently in Rhino/SketchUp/Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to read drawing packages, construction drawings and interpret contract documents with a solid knowledge of Excel and MS Word
  • Ability to build contract documents across a variety of theming styles, using hand drawings, 3D programs (Rhino, SketchUp). Interoperability between many other programs would be helpful
  • Ability to reflect basic construction and structural details/principles in design intent packages
  • Eagerness to learn new workflows and ability to critically problem solve interoperability and coordinate issues between teams
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques is a plus. These may include some of the following: miniature model making skills, carpentry, scenic painting, sculpting, molding, fiberglass layup, welding, etc
  • Ability to work well in an integrated design team with multiple disciplines
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher attending an accredited college/university earning a degree in Theatre Design, Scenic Design, Production Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design or Product Design
  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work
  • Must be fully available for the duration of the internship

Responsibilities

  • Support development, coordination, and communication of production design concepts to the project team
  • Confirm design collaboration with Creative, Architecture, Engineering, Design and Production disciplines, and various park partners
  • Develop skills to work in team environment
  • Develop design intent documents under Production Design Lead
  • Confirm scope details in preparation for reviews of show design documents
  • Assist production designers and model shop artists in coordinating models with drawings
  • Research applicable materials and construction techniques
  • Support mock-ups, staging efforts, and presentations including set-up and strike
  • Work on a team to build design intent packages and contract scope documents, within company standards and guidelines
  • Participate in vendor shop fabrication review sessions and provide supervision/coordination of show set installations
  • Build models in 3D software programs
