About The Position

The intern will be placed with the Waterways, Dam Safety group in Albany, NY, assisting with Canals Dam Safety Emergency Action Plan (EAP) program. EAP’s are critical dam safety compliance documents that include information about the consequence of a dam failure, contact notification processes and information, interventions to mitigate the potential consequence of a dam failure. The intern will be working closely with Canals EAP Coordinator and is s expected to assist with the annual EAP updates,, including participating in EAP update meetings with Waterways, Dam Safety and the EAP consultant, back checking Consultants revisions, verifying contact information for EAP plan holders, assist with drafting PowerPoint slides for EAP outreach to plan holders, confirming plan holders controlled document numbers, assisting with the transition from paper to electronic EAPs and other EAP related tasks assigned. The Intern will have an opportunity to participate in program staff calls, field visits to Canal dam and water impounding infrastructure, and meetings associated with the EAP program. Our paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program runs from June 2 - August 7, 2026. Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task with competing priorities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaborate as part of a team
  • Provide positive customer service for internal and external stakeholders
  • Enrollment in an associate’s, undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university is required. Recent graduates are not eligible for our Developmental Internship program.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the internship from June 2 - August 7

Responsibilities

  • Participate in department-specific projects, analysis, research methods and learn project management skills
  • Support team in developing business solutions that contribute to NYPA’s VISION2030 strategic goals
  • Research industry trends and emerging technologies to contribute to the continuous improvement of our programs
  • Other projects as assigned; will vary based on focus area
