The Senior Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, repair, preventive maintenance (PM), and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) of advanced analytical instruments—including Waters Xevo mass spectrometers, Waters QDa mass spectrometers and ACQUITY HPLC/UPLC systems—at customer sites and in-house. Travel: This is a traveling role within the central New Jersey area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • The innovative mentality to develop methods that go beyond existing solutions.
  • Ability to solve unique problems using standard and innovative solutions having a broad impact on the business.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Expert organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.
  • Highly sophisticated math skills. Ability to calculate somewhat complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.
  • Experience with Mass Spectrometry & Chromatography (Waters Xevo, QDa & ACQUITY Specialist)

  • Prior shift management or supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, calibration, repair, and preventive maintenance on Waters Xevo MS, ACQUITY HPLC/UPLC, and related analytical instruments (e.g., Agilent, Shimadzu, Thermo, Dionex).
  • Execute IQ/OQ/PQ qualification protocols and maintain compliance with GMP, GLP, and safety standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot operational problems on complex laboratory equipment, including GC/MS, LC/MS, QQQ, ICPMS, UPLC, and related peripherals (e.g., headspace, autosamplers).
  • Develop and validate LC-MS/MS methods using ACQUITY UPLC and Xevo MS platforms; optimize chromatographic conditions for complex sample matrices.
  • Complete detailed service reports and documentation for each service ticket and regulatory submission.
  • Train customers and other service representatives on instrument operation, maintenance, and software (MassLynx®, Empower®).
  • Act as a technical escalation point for critical service issues and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and identify business opportunities for service growth.
  • Participate in the growth of the region and company by supporting business development initiatives.
  • Travel to various customer locations as required; overnight travel may be necessary.
