AECOM’s Water Business line is seeking a talented Water-Wastewater - Water Resources Engineer to support our Water, Wastewater, and Water Resources practice based in the New England Area - Chelmsford, MA, Boston, MA, or Rocky Hill, CT. The selected mid-level engineer will have a primary focus on water/wastewater/water resources utility planning, design, and condition assessment. The candidate will perform a variety of tasks, including site investigations, field measurements, utility investigations, capacity studies, condition assessments, conceptual through final design, cost estimating, and construction administration/observation. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to develop professionally through frequent collaboration with senior engineers, project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and industry-leading subject matter experts, and attendance at professional conferences.

  • Provide technical support for a variety of utility design related projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, water line and collection line design, rehabilitation, master planning, and construction administration.
  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
  • Work under supervision of a project manager in the water/wastewater/water resources practice or senior level team members.
  • Utilize basic engineering principles, judgment, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
  • Work on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses.
  • Perform work with increasing responsibility.
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems.
  • Identify discrepancies in outcomes, results, and analysis of engineering tasks.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Provide guidance to entry-level engineers.
  • Record and interpret data, conduct analyses, prepare reports, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Perform data gathering site visits, field measurements, mapping, and observations during construction.
  • Providing construction support for review of shop drawings, request for information, and site visits to the construction.
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawing.
  • BA/BS degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline +2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • 2+ years of experience in planning, modeling, and/or design of water, wastewater, and stormwater utility projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to obtain in 6 months.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records Review.
  • Progressive experience with water/wastewater utility planning, modeling, condition assessment, and design.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, AutoCAD, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
  • Demonstrated time management skills, work ethic, and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers, and project managers for the preparation of high-quality work products.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public as may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
  • Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
