Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Construction Manager, with 5 - 10 years’ experience, to join our Water Business Line - Construction Management team out of our San Diego, CA Area. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. The Construction Manager, with the support of a strong nationally recognized technical staff, will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge of construction inspection, construction field management, QA / QC and report documentation, on various construction and/or reconstruction projects for municipal water and wastewater treatment, power generation, manufacturing facilities or other heavy construction projects. The Construction Manager will report to the Senior Construction Manager and/or Project Manager and provide regular updates on daily construction activities for their area of oversight.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of civil/utility field construction experience.
  • Experience with civil construction inspection activities on small to larger sized Heavy Civil construction such as projects Parks and Facilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze and organize large volumes of data.
  • Proven problem‑solving capabilities, including identifying issues, evaluating options, and developing innovative solutions, supported by a high level of mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and demonstrate solid time‑management skills.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite—especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook—is essential.
  • The position involves year‑round fieldwork in various weather conditions, potentially hazardous environments, and different shift schedules.
  • The role also requires the physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management.
  • General Contractor experience.
  • OSHA 10 Safety and Confined Space Entry Training.
  • CCM (Certified Construction Manager).

Responsibilities

  • Observing and inspecting construction activities performed by contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Conducting punch‑list inspections, reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical documents, and preparing detailed daily activity and progress reports.
  • Supporting project schedule reviews and contractor invoice evaluations.
  • Upholding all quality‑assurance standards and monitors compliance with applicable codes.
  • Identifying deviations from contract documents and communicates required corrections clearly and professionally to contractors.
  • Reviewing submittals and construction documentation, providing technical recommendations, and regularly participating in construction, safety, and site‑coordination meetings.
  • Monitoring and documenting contractor resource use—such as labor, materials, and equipment—for field changes and time‑and‑material work, and assists with negotiating basic construction changes.
  • Verifying installation of equipment and materials for payment, maintaining accurate payment‑quantity documentation, and performing necessary mathematical calculations during inspections.
  • Ensuring adherence to Arcadis’ project safety guidelines and coordinating special or material testing inspections as required.

  • The salary range for this position is $92,530 - $142,718. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
