HDR is looking for a summer 2026 Water/Wastewater Intern candidate to join our Water Business Group in Walnut Creek, CA. We believe water is more than a resource, it's a shared responsibility. As part of our Water Business Group, you’ll help shape how communities manage water for generations to come. From delivering safe drinking water and treating wastewater responsibly to developing sustainable water supplies and protecting lives and property through flood control, your work will directly support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Have taken courses and have a demonstrated knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling, experience in wastewater CFD modeling a plus
  • Have taken courses and have a demonstrated knowledge in Statistical Analysis
  • Experience in the collection and sampling of wastewater in a research environment.
  • Valid CA Driver’s license to drive
  • Ability to travel to Southern California
  • Local candidates preferred

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects
  • Conduct Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling to help analyze the fluid dynamics in wastewater treatment processes
  • Support the collection of and sampling of wastewater in a research environment, which may require travel to Southern California to support the field work
  • Perform statistical analysis on the data collected from wastewater sampling
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals' programs
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Perform assignments under the direct supervision of a professional or Project Manager
  • Perform other duties as needed
