About The Position

AECOM's Water Business Line is seeking a talented Project Engineer to support its Water, Wastewater, and Water Resources practice based in the New England Area (Chelmsford, MA; Boston, MA; or Rocky Hill, CT). The selected employee will have a primary focus on water/wastewater/water resources utility planning, design, condition assessment, and mapping for state, municipal, and private clients. The candidate will perform a variety of tasks, including site investigations, field measurements, utility investigations, capacity studies, condition assessments, conceptual through 100 percent design, cost estimating, and construction administration/observation. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to develop professionally through frequent collaboration with senior engineers, project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and industry-leading subject matter experts, and attendance at professional conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline + 4 years of related experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in planning, modeling, and/or design of water, wastewater, and stormwater utility projects.
  • Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain PE licensure within one (1) year of employment.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records Review.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer with 6+ years of experience planning, modeling, and/or design of water, wastewater, and stormwater utility projects
  • Progressive experience with water/wastewater utility planning, modeling, condition assessment, and design.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, Hydrologic/Hydraulic models).
  • Demonstrated time management skills, work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers, and project managers for the preparation of high-quality work products.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with clients, subconsultants, regulatory agencies, and members of the public as may be necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
  • The ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
  • Detail oriented while still able to understand/comply with the big picture/goals of a project.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for a variety of utility design related projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, water line and collection line design, rehabilitation, master planning, and construction administration.
  • Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
  • Work under supervision of a senior project manager in the water/wastewater/water resources practice or senior level team members.
  • Utilize basic engineering principles, judgement, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
  • Work on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses.
  • Perform work with little supervision.
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems.
  • Identify discrepancies in outcomes, results, and analysis of engineering tasks.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Provide guidance to entry-level engineers.
  • Record field data using tablets and GPS units.
  • Record and interpret data, conduct analyses, prepare reports, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Perform data gathering site visits, field measurements, mapping, and observations during construction.
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Software use includes, but is not limited to: AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Bentley and/or hydraulic modeling packages.
