Compensation will be determined based on education, licenses, certifications, skills, experience, and alignment with salaries for similar roles within the organization. Water/Wastewater Engineers Overview JEA is recruiting for engineers with a Professional Engineering License to support the planning, modeling, design, and construction of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water infrastructure. This role is ideal for civil, environmental, mechanical, or stormwater engineers with transferable experience in utilities, drainage, site development, or municipal engineering. The successful candidate may perform hydraulic modeling, system analysis, project management, and develop designs for pipelines, pump stations, and major capital improvements.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydraulic and hydrologic modeling for water distribution, sewer collection, force mains, and pump stations.
  • Develop and/or review designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and engineering reports.
  • Manage capital projects from design to construction, including budgeting, scheduling, permitting, procurement, and consultant management.
  • Provide operational and technical support, evaluate system performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare RFPs for engineering and construction services; review proposals and recommend awards.
  • Conduct and/or ensure field inspections, testing, and construction observations occur to ensure compliance with plans and standards.
  • Analyze system data, maintain modeling and GIS databases, and prepare technical and financial reports.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents.
  • Lead water and wastewater system design & development projects as assigned. This includes all aspects ranging from system modeling, planning, design, cost estimating and scope development under the direction and review of a manager or designee.
  • Responsible for providing operational support to the water and wastewater operating staff. Includes monitoring system performance, modifying procedures, providing technical advice or training, investigating system failures, and participating in process improvement opportunities under the direction and review of a manager or designee.
  • Provide project management in the construction of complex water and wastewater system projects. This includes scope, resource and budget development, vendor selection and resource procurement, permitting, project coordination, site inspections, and testing under the direction and review of a manager or designee.
  • Sign and seal system drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Prepare requests for proposal (RFP’s), reviewing responses and making bid award recommendation based on JEA procurement guidelines and policy.
  • Oversee complex field inspections including testing. Responsible to document and report non- conformance with design plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other internal and external stakeholders as required regarding engineering requirements and utility projects.
  • Prepare technical, financial or process analysis related reports.
  • Prepare written and verbal project status reports to include scheduling and financial performance details.
  • Use complex computer simulation software and interpret results.
  • Train and mentor others in engineering, project management or other related aspects of the functional area.
  • Performs other job-related work as assigned.
