About The Position

WSP USA hosts hundreds of internships across the United States to gain hands-on, meaningful work experience to enhance their education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Through our Developing Professionals Network, interns gain mentorship, networking opportunities and lifelong career connections. WSP is currently initiating a search for a Water/Wastewater Intern - Summer 2026 for our Tempe, AZ office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. This internship will be part of the WSP Summer Internship Program. As a summer intern, you have the opportunity to participate in our 12-week program scheduled to start on May 18th, 2026. The individual start date of the internship may be flexible. Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on water or wastewater treatment with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil3D, Bluebeam, Microsoft Visio, or Pipe-FLO.
  • Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside clients in industrial, mining, and municipal industries to engineer and develop water treatment solutions.
  • Assist and further develop skills in project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Consult with and assist water treatment plants across Arizona.
  • Utilize opportunities to design as well as support existing water treatment plants.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
