About The Position

AECOM is seeking a motivated and experienced Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our expanding water engineering practice in the Richmond, VA region. The selected candidate will become part of an established water engineering practice working on prominent water/wastewater treatment and wet weather programs, sewer collection, potable water distribution and storage, and pumping station projects in the region and throughout Virginia. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Help execute engineering design projects for water/wastewater infrastructure systems including treatment, collection, distribution, and pumping. Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings. Work under supervision of a project manager in the water/wastewater practice or senior level team members. Utilize basic engineering principles, judgment, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems. Work on routine or detailed engineering assignments involving calculations and engineering analyses. Perform work with increasing responsibility. Propose approaches to solve new problems. Identify discrepancies in outcomes, results, and analysis of engineering tasks. Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables. Record and interpret data, conduct analyses, prepare reports, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance. Perform data gathering site visits, field measurements, mapping, and observations during construction. Providing construction support for review of shop drawings, request for information, and site visits to the construction.

Requirements

  • BS Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related degree and 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Proven experience with engineering design projects for water/wastewater infrastructure systems including treatment, collection, distribution, pumping and storage.

  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction permitting regulations for water/wastewater systems.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as AutoCAD, GIS, and hydraulic models).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technicians, designers, engineers, and project managers for the preparation of high-quality work products.
