About The Position

Gainesville Regional Utilities' Water/Wastewater Department is currently seeking to fill a Utility Engineer position in the Engineering Asset Management and Pipeline Infrastructure group. This position consists of routine professional and technical engineering work coordinating the planning, designing, permitting, and implementing of critical water distribution and wastewater collection pipeline projects. SUMMARY Independent professional caliber and technical engineering work requiring application of standard engineering principles and procedures. Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision receiving instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features; assistance furnished on unusual problems. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its limited supervisory responsibility and lack of policy interpretation, and by its emphasis on independent fully competent application of standard engineering principles to engineering problems having clear and specified objectives, interpretation of data, and requiring investigation of a limited number of variables. Note: The Engineer 3 / Utility Designer 3 classification is the third in a series of four Engineer / Utility Designer Classifications of progressively more demanding job competencies and engineering duties. It should be understood that the job competencies, duties and requirements of the Engineer / Utility Designer1 and 2 are inherently included in this position. The inability to acquire and develop the required job competencies for each progressively higher-level Engineer / Utility Designer classification (Engineer / Utility Designer 4) may result in performance management action up to and including employment termination.
