About The Position

The Water Utilities Maintenance Apprentice or Technician position at the City of St. Petersburg involves performing semi-skilled field work related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of potable and reclaimed water distribution systems. This role is designed for entry-level candidates and includes on-the-job training, with the goal of obtaining necessary certifications and skills to advance to a journeyman level. Requirements

• Valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Valid Driver License.
• Obtain a State of Florida Class 'B' Commercial Driver License with 'N' endorsement within 12 months.
• Obtain and maintain the FDEP Level III Water Distribution Operator's License within 24 months.
• Complete an 8,000 hour on-the-job-training program and obtain a Water Pipefitter Certificate within 72 months.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the waterworks, maintenance, or construction fields.
• Ability to perform minor arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
• Ability to prepare routine written reports of work activities.
• Graduation from the Public Works Academy at Pinellas Technical College.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled field work in the installation and maintenance of water distribution systems.
• Maintain and repair fire hydrants and water meters.
• Install water meters at new service connections.
• Remove, replace, repair, and adjust water meters.
• Participate in the Apprenticeship Training Program to improve knowledge and skills in water distribution systems.
• Obtain necessary licenses and certifications as required by the position.
