At AES we are looking for a Water Treatment Technician Role Description: Under the direction of the Water Treatment Team Leader, the Operator monitors and controls all related equipment and systems within the area.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or Bachelor degree in a technical, engineering field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Two to Four years of plan operations experience is preferred with one year in the area of power generation.
  • Qualified in the operation of the Boiler and Water Treatment.
  • Qualification in Material Handling is a plus.
  • Indebt knowledge of integrated boiler and turbine operations.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Proven strong performance in previous roles.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Proven leadership and communications skills.
  • Works well with others in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Strict adherence to safety regulations and policies.
  • Operates all plant systems and equipment in a correct, efficient and safe manner.
  • Implement safe working practices, identify hazards and take corrective actions as approved.
  • Participates as an active member of the AES Puerto Rico plant wide meetings.
  • Ensure proper issuance of and adherence to area work clearance permits.
  • Ensure we comply with our environmental air Permits.
  • Prepares plant documentation, including logs and operating records.
  • Performs special assignments as directed by the Shift Team Leader.
  • Prepares work requests for maintenance personnel.
  • Make rounds and record data as assigned.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, inspections and trouble-shooting as assigned.
  • Prepare and execute Lock Out/Tag Out of area systems and equipment, and restore such systems and equipment to operation after maintenance
  • Assist maintenance and contractor personnel preparing area work clearance permits.
  • Conduct air tests to prepare confined space entry and hot work permits.
  • Perform as a Confined Space Monitor, if needed by maintenance actions.
  • Perform area safety inspections and tests on such equipment as fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, emergency lighting, safety showers and eyewashes, and ladders.
  • Inform Control Room Operator, Maintenance Department, and Area Leader of status of area operating equipment, and problems as discovered.
  • Provide shift relief support when necessary, for vacations and sick leave.
  • Assist in the development of standard operational procedures.
  • Perform overhaul maintenance and system improvement tasks as assigned.
  • Handle and transfer bulk chemicals.
  • Recommend plant betterment items to improve overall plant efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Maintain plant security.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as man lift, skid loader and forklift as assigned.
  • Handle inert and explosive gas (H2, N2, O2, acetylene, CO2 and CL2).
  • Responsible for interfacing with chemical supplier’s to ensure proper water chemistry is maintained.
  • Interface with operations personnel to maintain required chemistry balance and chemical inventory
  • Interface with equipment vendors to develop and continually improve standard equipment operating procedures.
  • Interface with operations personnel to implement these procedures.
  • Responsible for writing and maintaining equipment logs, operational logs, procedures, and other reports as required in a neat and professional manner.
  • Reads, understands and responds to written instructions and logbook notations.
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance when plant conditions allow, and assists maintenance personnel in shutdown-related maintenance and repairs and helps with plant clean-up.
  • Read, interpret, and implement technical information found in manufacturers’ and OEM technical manuals, and operating and maintenance procedures
  • Monitor, inspect, repair, adjust, service, and troubleshoot equipment
  • Utilize computer-based management systems as made available for operational and management requirements
  • Interact with station personnel and contractors.
  • Performs other duties and administrative tasks as assigned by plant supervisory personnel.
  • Track area equipment performance to assist operations and maintenance personnel for maintenance and outage scheduling
  • Perform all work in accordance with sound safety practices and using appropriate safety devices and equipment.
  • Perform chemical analysis and chemical control on steam, cooling, and condensate systems.
  • Maintain chemistry logs.
