About The Position

The Treatment Plant Operator at American Water is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the water treatment plant and related facilities. This role ensures the supply, treatment, storage, and distribution of potable water, while also managing solids handling processes. The operator performs technical work related to overall plant operations, compliance with regulations, and maintenance of equipment, contributing to the company's mission of providing safe and reliable water services.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or state recognized Educational Equivalency Certificate.
  • Experience and possession of a Kentucky Water Treatment Plant Operator Class IV-A License.
  • Valid Kentucky driver's license.
  • Ability to read and interpret charts, gauges, and meters.
  • Knowledge of water treatment operations, methods, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to the position.
  • Experience with mechanical skills for minor repairs to process equipment.
  • Computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, and SCADA systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift, dump truck, and backhoe experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and inspect the water treatment plant and related facilities.
  • Monitor overall operations and analyze chemical processes for process control.
  • Operate and adjust plant process equipment, pumps, and instrumentation as necessary.
  • Perform daily operations of solids handling and dewatering processes.
  • Monitor and control water supply, transmission, and storage systems through SCADA.
  • Collect and analyze samples for compliance and process control, performing laboratory tests as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the plant and equipment, performing routine housekeeping duties.
  • Calibrate and maintain monitoring equipment and analyzers.
  • Prepare chemical solutions and adjust flows based on testing and inspections.
  • Conduct daily rounds of the treatment facilities to verify equipment operation and conditions.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and report issues in a timely manner.
