About The Position

The position involves operating and controlling treatment plant pumps and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and industrial use. The role is critical in ensuring the delivery of safe and clean drinking water, adhering to regulatory standards, and maintaining the operational efficiency of the water purification process.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of water purification processes and water quality standards.
  • Possession of a non-restricted Class III Water Plant Operators License from the State of West Virginia (Class IV recommended).
  • Completion of a pulmonary function test and respirator fit test.
  • Ability to perform required duties and work assignments physically.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Mathematical skills for calculating dosages and measurements.
  • Mechanical ability to operate pumps, valves, and motors.
  • Compliance with continuing education requirements for operator certification renewal.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.

  • Experience in a similar role within the water treatment industry.
  • Additional certifications related to water treatment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to establish and maintain flow through the water purification process.
  • Maintain process control through the water purification and washwater processes, including calibration and adjustment of chemical feed rates.
  • Monitor SCADA and adjust controls to regulate flow rates.
  • Perform emergency operating procedures and take corrective action for effective operation of the water purification plant.
  • Conduct water quality sampling, testing, and analysis to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Record data such as chlorine residuals, turbidity, pH, and flow rates.
  • Monitor SCADA system for water tank levels and pressure, adjusting booster pumps as necessary.
  • Handle and store water treatment plant chemicals appropriately.
  • Perform general maintenance duties at the water treatment plant and related facilities.
