About The Position

This posting is collecting applications for multiple A operator and B operator positions. Water Treatment Operator B: Hiring Salary: $41.49/hour Sign-On Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $3,500 bonus; with $1,750 paid on the first payroll, and $1,750 paid upon successful completion of the 6 month introductory period. Water Treatment Operator A: Hiring Salary: $47.01/hour Sign-On Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $10,000 bonus; with $5,000 paid on the first payroll, and $5,000 paid upon successful completion of the 6 month introductory period. OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT Performs level “A” or "B" Certification duties in the maintenance and operation high performing, nationally recognized water treatment facilities. Aurora’s water treatment programs are recognized as leaders in the industry and all three water purification facilities have achieved the highest recognition by the Partnership for Safe Water as “Excellence in Water Treatment”.

Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Experience required to obtain a Water Treatment Operator A or B certification as per CDPHE certification requirements
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of safety practices and requirements of a water treatment plant.
  • Knowledge of chemistry, microbiology, mathematics, and hydrology; pumps, valves, motors, filters, backflow prevention devices, piping, and plumbing structures; Chemical analysis and testing techniques; Personal computers including spreadsheet and word processing software applications.
  • Skills: Skill in the use of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors.
  • Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens; communicate effectively both orally and in writing perform mathematical computations perform chemical, physical, and biological control analyses, corrosion control and cross-connection control work without close supervision direct the work of other employees Work shifts and nights; and work overtime, standby, and/or callback duty.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment required for the job and able to meet requirements under the Aurora Water Respiratory Protection Program.
  • Creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
  • Licenses and Certifications Required: Colorado Water Treatment Plant Operators Class A or B Certificate.
  • Colorado driver's license with a good driving history.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree in water technology or water quality management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing work performed on assigned shift and ensures treated water quality is at or above State, Federal, and Water Department standards
  • Act as Lead worker for operators on assigned shift.
  • Monitors raw and treated water flows, adjusts flows and pumping rates as needed; mixes chemicals
  • Conducts quality tests on raw and treated water
  • Maintains and calibrates on-line process analyzers
  • Performs evaluation of treatment process to ensure optimization; keeps records of chemicals used and tests performed
  • Keeps records of chemicals used and tests performed
  • Develop, monitor, and implement a process control plan for plant operation using manual and computerized systems
  • Maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, reports, and performs maintenance and repair of plant equipment
  • Maintain plant facility and grounds; maintains plant security
  • Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reports of plant performance
  • Responds to questions, problems, and complaints concerning water quality or service
  • Trains and instructs staff in plant maintenance and operation activities
  • Ensures use of proper safety equipment and procedures
  • Ensures cleanliness of assigned areas and proper storage of equipment and supplies
  • May perform after hours dispatching duties
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
