Water Treatment Analyst (part-time 28 hours/week) A Water Treatment Analyst is responsible for the following: Provide safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant water treatment for the Central Heating Plant and the associated equipment in campus building heating conversion rooms. Additionally, provide safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant water treatment for Chilled Water (CHW), Cooling Tower (CT), swimming pool and spa water systems. This will be accomplished by accurate testing and using established treatment procedures. Backs up Water Treatment Supervisor.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Two years’ swimming pool, spa, heating and cooling water treatment operation and maintenance experience, or equivalent required.
  • An understanding and ability to use hand and small power tools
  • Ability to read and understand project drawings and documents
  • The ability to maintain a good working relationship with all involved personnel, including treating others with respect and kindness
  • Has a valid Utah Drivers' License
  • Must pass a post-interview physical and lift test
  • Physical Effort - moderate – Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions
  • Need to lift panels or equipment in the 20-50 lbs. range. Occasions may require lifting or manipulation of items heavier than 50 lbs with help.
  • Environment - Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters.
  • Working from a ladder or platform to test, repair or install sensors or monitoring equipment
  • Working in hot environments (high temp hot water areas
  • Working in tunnels (high temp, sealed asbestos insulation, tight area
  • Hazards - Frequent existing or potential hazards
  • Working with Chemicals on a daily/weekly basis

Nice To Haves

  • Five years’ swimming pool, spa, heating and cooling water treatment operation and maintenance experience, or equivalent preferred
  • Two years’ Industrial maintenance mechanic or related maintenance.
  • Have experience with packaged boilers, chilled water and condensing water operation and maintenance.
  • Additional schooling or training in the mechanical and boiler fields
  • Must be an independent worker, without the need for constant supervision and be able to make decisions alone.
  • Has excellent interpersonal, communication, organization skills
  • This position must have proficiency in water treatment component piping design, fitting, measuring, assembling, and repairing all types of pumps and sensors

Responsibilities

  • Supervision, safety, quality and project management
  • Maintain water quality requirements for campus hot water & chilled water systems
  • Maintain water quality of pools & spas in accordance with the established health standards
  • Ensure effective soft water generation for make-up systems
  • Train & mentor students to ensure that skills and abilities are developed to perform routine work.
  • Manage student schedules, quality of work and work assignments
