Job Description Summary: The Water Safety Instructor is responsible for organizing and conducting swim lessons for individuals of varying skill levels. The instructor will follow a structured curriculum, monitor student progress, and ensure a safe and engaging learning environment. This role requires strong swimming skills, patience, and the ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age.
Must successfully pass a background check and urine drug screening.
Strong knowledge of all four competitive strokes: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Ability to demonstrate swimming techniques effectively.
Must be comfortable working with children and adults of all ages and ability levels.
Ability to work outdoors in poolside conditions up to 95% of the time, exposed to sunlight, humidity, and temperatures ranging from 60 to over 100 degrees.
Must be able to spend extended periods of time in the water.
Strong verbal communication skills to effectively instruct participants and engage with parents.
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols.
Swim instructors must be available for scheduled swim lesson sessions lasting two continuous weeks.
Required to prepare lesson plans at least 30 minutes before class.
Availability required for mornings, evenings, and some weekends based on lesson schedules.
American Red Cross Professional CPR/AED Certification (Training provided).
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification (Training provided).

Nice To Haves

At least one year of swim lesson teaching experience or competitive swimming experience at a high school or higher level (Preferred).

Responsibilities

Follow and implement the designed swim lesson curriculum.
Set and track individualized progression goals for participants.
Lead and motivate participants in a positive and encouraging manner.
Clearly communicate with students, parents, and staff regarding progress and expectations.
Evaluate participant performance and progress throughout lessons.
Maintain accurate attendance and progress records for lessons.
Educate swimmers on water safety and life-saving principles.
Teach proper swimming strokes and techniques using industry-leading standards.
Ensure that pool areas remain safe, clean, and free of hazards.
Respond swiftly to poolside and in-water emergencies in coordination with the facility’s safety team.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
