About The Position

Atkins is seeking a FEMA Water Resources Engineering Intern to join our Overland Park, Kansas office. This internship is designed for college students pursuing a degree in a STEM field, particularly in Civil Engineering with a focus on Water Resources. The role provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment, contributing to technical production of project deliverables and operations support while applying academic knowledge to real-world challenges.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Water Resources or related field.
  • Must have completed 60 hours towards a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2025).
  • Basic math skills to perform simple calculations.
  • Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets or databases.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of water/flood hazard modeling, wastewater modeling, and water quality regulatory issues.
  • Knowledge of floodplain delineation, storm water management, culvert and bridge hydraulics, and drainage design.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS, AutoCAD or MicroStation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical production of project deliverables and operations support.
  • Compile data and prepare reports.
  • Coordinate operations within the organization unit to ensure consistency with policies and procedures.
  • Utilize standard office software for various tasks.
