About The Position

Felsburg Holt & Ullevig is seeking an entrepreneurial, self-starting Senior Engineer to join the Water Resources team in our Lincoln or Omaha, Nebraska office. The selected candidate will lead drainage and floodplain design supporting transportation projects and manage other water resources related projects. This role will also include managing a small group of engineers and designers, providing mentorship, and supporting career growth. Business development and marketing will also be expected in this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university with an emphasis in Water Resources. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in drainage design and water resources work
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D and 2D, SRH-2D, CulvertMaster, HY-8, FlowMaster, StormCAD, EPA SWMM, or similar tools
  • Experience working with transportation projects and with NDOT or other DOTs is highly desired
  • Project management experience required
  • Marketing and business development experience required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required in Nebraska or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Stream restoration and stabilization experience is a plus
  • Experience working with transportation projects and with NDOT or other DOTs is highly desired

Responsibilities

  • Work with leadership within the Water Resources Group to help manage staff efforts, provide mentorship and guidance to staff, and participate in regular staff and project coordination meetings
  • Help develop FHU staff within their existing skill sets and encourage growth in water resources areas of interest such as advanced hydraulic modeling, stream restoration, regional water quality and stormwater detention design, major outfall design, and related disciplines
  • Manage the drainage design and water resources portion of transportation projects as a task lead including schedule, budget, scope, and coordination with other discipline task leads
  • Manage independent drainage design and water resources projects including contracting, scope and fee development, team management, client coordination, and deliverables while meeting scope, budget, and schedule requirements
  • Lead marketing and business development efforts for water resources projects
  • Roadway drainage design including hydrology and hydraulics for projects involving roadside ditches, curb and gutter sections, complex storm sewer design with utility conflicts, retrofitting storm sewer systems, and coordination with downstream infrastructure.
  • Stormwater quality and detention design including post-construction best management practices (BMPs) recommended by NDOT and local agencies, construction BMPs for sediment and erosion control, and familiarity with MS4 permit requirements.
  • Bridge and culvert hydraulic analysis including sizing proposed structures, analyzing existing structures, performing scour analysis, and designing scour protection for minor and major outfalls.
  • Floodplain analysis including HEC-RAS modeling to support floodplain development permit documentation and preparation of CLOMR and LOMR applications to FEMA.
  • Support construction projects by reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting field visits to verify compliance with contract drawings and specifications.
