About The Position

The City of Plano is seeking a Water Quality Technician to ensure compliance with water quality standards and regulations set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). This role involves collecting and testing water samples, maintaining records, and ensuring the safe handling of hazardous materials, contributing to the health and safety of the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two years of experience in water sampling or related field.
• Valid State of Texas Class C driver's license.
• Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Water Distribution Operator Grade C License.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with hazardous materials handling and testing procedures.
• Familiarity with state and federal regulations regarding water quality.

Responsibilities

• Collects water samples from designated locations following appropriate procedures to avoid contamination.
• Flushes water mains to maintain water quality in the distribution system.
• Performs water sample testing and records results accurately.
• Develops and maintains a database of water quality records including test results and locations.
• Monitors and updates the water quality monitoring plan as required by TCEQ.
• Submits required samples and data to TCEQ on a regular basis.
• Orders and safely stores chemicals and hazardous materials for testing purposes.
• Calibrates and maintains testing equipment, performing repairs as needed.
• May lead the work activities of other employees.
