About The Position
The Water Quality Technician II position at Charlotte Water involves a range of responsibilities focused on ensuring the accuracy and validity of water quality testing and compliance with state and federal regulations. This role is critical in maintaining the safety and quality of drinking water, wastewater, and surface water samples for a large utility serving over 300,000 customer accounts. The technician will calibrate and maintain field instrumentation, collect and analyze samples, and respond to environmental impacts and customer complaints regarding water quality. The position requires operating vehicles equipped with specialized equipment, performing routine monitoring, and participating in emergency response activities related to contamination incidents. The technician will also prepare documentation, enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and conduct investigations into water quality complaints. Safety is paramount, and the technician must handle potentially hazardous materials safely while maintaining accurate records and compliance with safety protocols. In addition to technical tasks, the Water Quality Technician II will be involved in training less experienced staff, maintaining inventory of chemicals and equipment, and ensuring that all procedures conform to established safety practices. The role demands a strong understanding of water treatment processes, sample collection techniques, and the ability to analyze and interpret data accurately. The technician will work closely with other team members to identify issues and implement solutions, contributing to the overall mission of Charlotte Water to provide high-quality water services to the community.
