Starting Salary Range: $25.89 - $37.92 GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Performs all production duties in Water Production plant as assigned. Must learn duties of Water Station A Operator as part of a progression system to prepare for next available opening in the WSAO operator ranks. (Fully qualified WPH’s are a part of a progression system to fill open WSAO Operator positions.) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Unloads all Water Production chemicals using blowers, exhausters, pumps, valving and compressors. Maintains chemical inventory records clearly and legibly. Communicates by radio with trucks and plant personnel. Cleans Water Production plant facilities including restrooms, offices, remote facilities and plant(s), and grounds by using various cleaning supplies and floor buffers. Monitors equipment and takes readings as appropriate. Investigates equipment problems, possibly requiring use of BWL vehicle to travel to trouble spots on all shifts. Uses small hand tools. Unloads, stocks and distributes materials. May be required to work different shifts including weekends and holidays. Required to follow BWL Safety Manual rules and wear required personal protective equipment. Attends training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by Supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Needs high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass LCC math assessment with a minimum level of 4.
  • Must qualify for Water Utility Operator pool through standardized assessment.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts.
  • Considerable standing and walking through plant.
  • Some awkward body positioning required grease and oil equipment and adjust plant valving.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Occasionally climb ladders up to 30 feet with 30-pound loads; frequently climb stairs up to approximately 60 feet with 50-pound loads.
  • Lift 50-pound bags frequently from floor to waist level and occasionally to shoulder height.
  • Good vision required when working in plant and to drive BWL vehicle.
  • Must be able to communicate via radio, telephone, and e-mail.
  • Must be able to make written records of equipment readings and materials unloaded.
  • Must be respirator fit test certified and be able to wear respirator.
  • Visual acuity and color differentiation required for reading schematic diagrams and operational control equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Michigan F–4 License, previous water treatment plant experience preferred.
