The Water Process Engineer will operate and upkeep water treatment pilot systems in water treatment facilities in eastern North Carolina. This task may include, but is not limited to, contribution to development of protocols for the tests, sorbents loading of columns with granular sorbents, general operation of the pilot systems, regeneration of sorbents, collection of water samples, interaction with relevant water treatment facility personnel, coordination with other UNC staff for water sample analysis. The Water Process Engineer will also perform minor pilot system upkeep such as valve/fitting changes, pump troubleshooting, among others, in coordination with the engineering and chemistry teams. The Water Process Engineer will meet regularly with the engineering team to design systems and operations plans, coordinate operation and sampling, and communicate progress. The Water Process Engineer will be responsible for contributing to creating reports detailing the test results and progress for various stakeholders of the project, including the engineering team, project team, and NC Collaboratory. These duties will include writing reports, performing data analysis, creating graphics for data visualization, and coordinating with the project team to meet reporting deadlines.
